🔄 OpenR Link Software updates

December 22nd, 2025

As you know, Renault’s OpenR Link system runs on Android Automotive and has the ability to receive FOTA updates on its own using the car’s 4G connection (never Wifi!).

FOTA updates start downloading without user intervention in the background when the car is in use, and then begin to install. This phase may require several hours of cumulative driving (but not continuous driving!). There’s nothing you can do to speed up this phase. It’s just for the final installation that confirmation will be required, and the vehicle will be unusable for a few tens of minutes.

Example of the screen that appears when the engine is switched off and the update is ready to install. All you have to do is confirm and leave the vehicle. I will try to find it in english!

We can see that this is an update for an ECU other than the OpenR Link tablet, requiring the car to be immobilized. OpenRlink updates are quicker and require no immobilization.

The table below shows the FOTA update name (OpenR Link 1.1.2 for example) and the software version 8.27.37. This version number is useful if you haven’t had any FOTA OpenR Link updates. It can be found in: Settings ➡️ System Information. Then look at the SW line and find the version number in the middle (yes, not very user-friendly…).

OTHER UPDATES:These updates concern other ECUs in the vehicle. It is not possible to know which version is already installed in the car. However, once the update has been performed, it will appear in the update history.

⚠️ Only cars requiring the update receive it. There are specific updates for certain models, EVs, hybrids, equipment, date of manufacture, etc. So don’t worry if your neighbor receives an update but you don’t.

FAQ

My car can’t find any updates?

The car regularly searches for updates on its own (every X days). When there’s a big update campaign, not everyone receives it at the same time, so you just have to wait your turn.

I’ve already accepted the update, but it’s offered again on the next trip. The update does not install.

I’ve actually seen a few cases of users where the update doesn’t seem to want to install itself (often with the update “Petrol Engine”). You have to insist, it will eventually install correctly.

Tip that worked for some people (to be done once you’ve reached your destination, engine OFF):

  • Start the car (Power button)
  • Stop the engine (Power button) a few seconds later.
  • The update is proposed, accept it to install it.

I’m stuck at step 0/0 – 0%.

Fortunately, this is a very rare situation, but you can’t do it yourself. You’ll have to go to a garage and ask for Actis solution no. 75813, which solves the problem.

    Dear mr,
    Update 2024 2025 electric engine 2.1.0 / 3.1.0
Apart from solving ‘impossible to charge battery and activating supercharging on display’ does it make any other improvements?

My garage didn’t even know thus update, but they executed it and solved my problems. Thank you!
    Best regards

  • step 0/0 – 0% can be fixed, ingnored by doing an system reset from the tablet

  • Have the very same problem, the particular update “Technical Platform 1.1.0” is due for installation since 1 month now but just does not install. I have emailed both the local dealer here nd Renault’s Service Relation Multimedia Section but they were not helpful at all … so disappointed.

  • Yes seems the Power off / on and off is working ! finally I managed to have the Technical Platform 1.1.0 installed.

  • Hello. I am driving a gasoline 1.3 turbo model of Arkana (XM3) in March 2020. The software version that I can check is 283C35519R, and the update date is 03.01. 2023. I would like to know up to which version my vehicle can be updated through FOTA of open-R Link. Also, if I visit the service center for the latest version update, I would like to know what changes I can actually get from the vehicle.

What a fucking joke Renault is! I shelled out for a fully loaded Megane E-Tech Iconic in Austria – every goddamn option ticked, still waiting for the promised “one-pedal drive” that was supposed to drop by April, latest June. Here we are, end of October, and still nothing. Tststs. Meanwhile, my Tesla I grabbed this year gets monthly updates with new features and tweaks – seamless, reliable, like it’s actually from the future.

Decided to take a long drive the other day for an emergency, night road, and boom – this piece of shit starts installing two 1MB updates out of nowhere. No choice, no warning, just decides to brick itself mid-journey. Fast charging? Dead. Tried every charger in the book, nothing. Stuck on 22kW AC like some caveman. Called Renault support? “Sorry, the car decides when to update, we can’t do shit.” Are you fucking kidding me? This is your “modern” software? Android Automotive bullshit that doesn’t even boot right? Lies from day one – you parade it as cutting-edge, but it’s a glitchy turd.

Wife tells me some app auto-installed for camera recording. Great! Except it errors out: “Vehicle not supported, delete app.” What the actual fuck? Why shove this crap on if it doesn’t work? Nobody opted in – if you force-install garbage, make it FUNCTION, you incompetent clowns! What do you do all day at Renault? Jack off to your own press releases? This is an embarrassment for a “European” brand. Can’t deliver updates, can’t fix basics – total shame.

Biggest mistake ever buying Euro trash. In four years, this lemon goes back, and we’re straight to another Tesla or American iron. Fuck your promises, fuck your excuses – you’re dinosaurs in denial. Disgusted and done.

  • I’ve just received an OTA update to OpenR Link 3.1.0 on my 2023 MĂ©gane E-Tech. The software version is 11.22.31 and it’s still AAOS 10. The update notes say the next one will be 3.2.0 with AAOS 12, but it’s not showing up for me yet.

    • Hi,
Did you received “Connectivity 3.1” update before OpenR Link 3.1.0 (you can check this in update history).

  • Bonsoir,

    Je dispose d’une Renault Austral I 1.2 E-Tech full hybrid 200ch Iconic esprit Alpine 06-2023 (XHN – HHN – fabrication 22-03-2023 HGM2 BRA03 MOTEUR ESSENCE 1,2 TCE H5F).

A ce jour, j’ai eu uniquement OpenR Link 3.1 (USB – Atelier).
3.2 + AA12 non déployés en FOTA ni manuelle.

    Du nouveau svp ?

    Merci d’avance
